THE SOCIÉTÉ DE VERDISSEMENT
DU MONTRÉAL MÉTROPOLITAIN
HEAT ISLANDS, COOL ISLANDS
On a very hot day in Montréal in June 2006, in a single neighbourhood a difference of 6°C was recorded in an area close to an industrial zone compared to an area with greenery nearby. That same day, industrial parks recorded temperatures 12.5°C higher than a residential neighbourhood well ventilated by its vegetation cover. SOVERDI focuses on reducing the intense heat islands that exist in many neighbourhoods, using lush vegetation to create islands of cool. With the support of its DONORS, PARTNERS, BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND TEAM, SOVERDI has committed to raising $10 million over the next five years, to cool heat islands as quickly as possible.
